Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Trust (BMCT) was established under the Uganda Trust Act in 1994, as a registered Conservation Trust Fund mandated to support conservation of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (MGNP) and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (BINP) and contribute to uplifting the livelihoods of the people in communities adjacent to these national parks. It was the first Conservation Trust Fund in Africa established by Global Environment Facility (GEF) after the 1992 Rio Earth Summit.
The aim of BMCT is to provide long-term reliable support for projects promoting research or conservation of biological diversity and sustainable use of natural resources in the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (MGNP) and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (BINP) while at the same time promoting the well-being of neighboring communities.
